Incredible news that 59E59 Theaters / The Elysabeth Kleinhans Theatrical Foundation has received a $10 million gift which will allow producing companies that rent their venue for shows to do so rent free! It's wonderful to see such positive news for the arts community in NYC. “By eliminating rental fees for producing plays at our venue, the Foundation has shattered one of the many financial barriers to emerging companies presenting new works, opening our doors to diverse voices and innovative productions that might otherwise not be seen,” said 59E59 managing director Brian Beirne in a statement. Liv Nilssen, our Director of Sector Strategy, responded to the exciting update: "This is a very thoughtful philanthropic project. This structure supports a valuable institution and its critical infrastructure while centring benefits on under-resourced non-institutional artists. This is how we support a dynamic artistic ecology. The generous gift to 59E59 is clearly a validation of the amazing work this organisation does. Love it." You can read more here: https://bit.ly/4aJ0EK8
