Integrating Spektrix with Your Website

Technology is changing all the time and it naturally affects our purchasing behaviors. The popularity of online shopping and the increase in people using their cell phones to make purchases tells us that people are moving towards the newest and most convenient technologies. The arts industry has experienced this shift as much as any other industry, which is why it’s so crucial to make sure you have a great website and web experience.

We know this can be daunting, so we provide tools to integrate our ticketing systems with our clients’ websites, just to make things a little bit simpler. We use a combination of an API, which provides access to up-to-date information directly from Spektrix about events and other items, alongside iframes, which handle things like seat selection, offers and card payment processing.

We’ve chosen this approach so that your customers are able to book quickly and easily on a wide range of browsers and devices, without ever needing to leave the website they started on. Using a single set of iframes allows us make sure seating plans display correctly and card details are processed securely, while being as straightforward to implement as possible.

Future plans

We think it should be possible for developers to decide how a website should be integrated, and create dynamic purchase paths which provide a slick user experience across all devices, all the while maximizing revenue generation and audience development opportunities.

Here at Spektrix we’re always trying to find ways to make things even better for our clients, and to that end we’re working on two areas that we think will help:

1. A new and upgraded API.

This new API, available to all our clients, is going to be the first step in a new approach to integrating Spektrix into a website, opening up much more of the logic that drives the system than ever before. It’s in beta testing at the moment, and we’ll be talking about it more as it gets closer to a full release.

2. A suite of web components.

These are standardized building blocks of code which aid the development of specific functions on a website, which we'll develop alongside iframes before eventually replacing them with web components altogether. Web developers are going to be able to pick and choose which components they need for different parts of a website’s purchase path, adapting them however they need. We’ve already built the first of these, two widgets which are really easy to implement and add a little extra functionality to a website:

You can see both of the components in this screenshot - ‘Logged In’ and ‘Cart’ widgets. The Logged In widget shows visitors whether they’re logged in as they navigate around the site, while the Cart widget shows a summary of the number and value of items currently in the cart. These can both be placed on any or all pages of a website.

Web components as technology are still in their infancy, and as such we’re working on them as part of a long term project. We’re going to be developing and releasing more features using web components as we go on, but this will be an ongoing process over a period of time.

What next?

We want to offer web developers cutting-edge, fully customizable integration options, so we’re going to continue to support our existing APIs and iframes while also releasing new features and enhancements for the foreseeable future - including, but not limited to web components. In fact, we’ve recently released a new ‘multibuy cross-selling’ feature in which you can get up and running online in just a few clicks, and which works seamlessly within an existing iframe integration.

Crucially, as we release web components and continue to develop the new API, web developers will be able to start making use of them alongside existing iframe integrations. For our clients, this means they can start benefiting from the additional flexibility on offer without needing to completely re-build their websites.
